Empty Bowls Make A Simple Meal

Yesterday our 4-H club, Cassia Cowpokes, hosted our 2nd Empty Bowls Fundraiser at the Cassia Community Club.  It was from 4-7 pm and all of the money raised went to benefit Lake Cares Food Pantry.

You see, this all started three years ago when our 4H club planned to clean out some horse stalls at Boggy Creek Camp.  It was winter and getting dark early so all of us moms decided to bring soup that night and share with everyone.  I had mentioned to them all that I was part of a fundraiser when I lived in Jacksonville that was called Empty Bowls and wouldn’t it be neat to do one here.  So that is where our Empty Bowls began….

I am excited to say that we raised over $1,000 for Lake Cares Food Pantry last night.  It was a good time had by all!  This is my favorite fundraiser that we do all year.  ❤

The first thing you do is go pick out a hand painted bowl.  All of the bowls were made by students and local artists.  You then proceed to the cashier and she gave out a plastic bowl where you took that over to the awesome moms that made and donated all the soup.  I brought my homemade baked potato soup that disappeared around 5pm LOL.  I did manage to save me a small bowl of it back for later. 🙂

We had everything from Venison Chili, Vegetable, Hoppin’ John, Split Pea, Chicken Noodle and oh my, it just went on.  Our 4H moms were so generous and there was even enough left over if you wanted try another kind of soup than you had before.

The soup came with a roll and a bottle of water, tea or coffee.  The cost was $10.00.  It was a simple meal so we can be reminded that others have empty bowls.

Thank you to everyone who came out last night.  It was a perfect night for a bowl of soup and we even had the sounds of Bluegrass music to listen to!  I’m so proud of our moms, 4-Hr’s and I thank my friend Irene at Lake Cares for her great big heart to give back to others!  Hope to see you next year!

New Year, New Goals

I hope you are enjoying the first part of 2015!  I can’t believe we are already in the middle of January.  What’s up with all this fast moving stuff?

So, did you set some goals this year?  I’m not really one to make the whole “New Years Resolution” things; however, I have made a commitment to myself to get more organized this year.  I know, most that know me think I’m an organized freak (which I am with certain things), but I want to go a little deeper this year.

Even though I strive to live a simple life, I still feel that there’s so much to do around our homestead and I really want to focus on getting my act together.  I’m good at collecting eggs (well, sometimes) and planting my garden, but somehow I seem to forget to clean the A/C vents throughout the year or go through my “junk” drawer.  Does this sound familiar?

Organization101

So, last year I started thinking ( I know that can be scary sometimes) that I wanted to design a notebook and have cute little tabs inside and be all organized with my different categories.  Well, I lucked out and found several online and they are for the most part “FREE”.  Yep, you heard me!

I actually found a few that I liked, so what I have done is combined theirs and created some forms of my own to make it fit my family.

Taylor over at Home Storage Solutions has it going on!  Check out her 52-week challenge HERE.  I have 15 minutes a day, don’t you?

Declutter 365

I found my cover online and can’t seem to remember where I downloaded it from.  Oopsy!  I’m sure it would be easy to duplicate something similar to this one. 🙂

Another resource that I loved was Quinn over at Reformation Acres.  We are like-minded in so many ways. ❤  You can download previous years files for “FREE” HERE and for just $3.99 you can order her 2015 complete Homestead and Garden Management Binder HERE.  I have ordered mine and printed them out and can’t wait to get started!

I hope you will join me on this challenge.  If we take baby steps and tackle a little at a time, we can all strive to live a simple life!

Blessings!
