Yesterday our 4-H club, Cassia Cowpokes, hosted our 2nd Empty Bowls Fundraiser at the Cassia Community Club. It was from 4-7 pm and all of the money raised went to benefit Lake Cares Food Pantry.
You see, this all started three years ago when our 4H club planned to clean out some horse stalls at Boggy Creek Camp. It was winter and getting dark early so all of us moms decided to bring soup that night and share with everyone. I had mentioned to them all that I was part of a fundraiser when I lived in Jacksonville that was called Empty Bowls and wouldn’t it be neat to do one here. So that is where our Empty Bowls began….
I am excited to say that we raised over $1,000 for Lake Cares Food Pantry last night. It was a good time had by all! This is my favorite fundraiser that we do all year. ❤
The first thing you do is go pick out a hand painted bowl. All of the bowls were made by students and local artists. You then proceed to the cashier and she gave out a plastic bowl where you took that over to the awesome moms that made and donated all the soup. I brought my homemade baked potato soup that disappeared around 5pm LOL. I did manage to save me a small bowl of it back for later. 🙂
We had everything from Venison Chili, Vegetable, Hoppin’ John, Split Pea, Chicken Noodle and oh my, it just went on. Our 4H moms were so generous and there was even enough left over if you wanted try another kind of soup than you had before.
The soup came with a roll and a bottle of water, tea or coffee. The cost was $10.00. It was a simple meal so we can be reminded that others have empty bowls.
Thank you to everyone who came out last night. It was a perfect night for a bowl of soup and we even had the sounds of Bluegrass music to listen to! I’m so proud of our moms, 4-Hr’s and I thank my friend Irene at Lake Cares for her great big heart to give back to others! Hope to see you next year!
