31 Day Prayer Challenge for Marriage

Prayer is how I survive. Not only in my personal life but in my marriage. I’ve been married to my husband for 22 years and it hasn’t always been peaches and cream and in the beginning, we didn’t even go to church or pray together.  Neither one of us had a relationship with God.

18740185_1858646164149192_577798007508522033_n

Once our kids came along, that’s when God got a hold of us and we were both baptized together and accepted Jesus as our savior together.  It was pretty cool to do it together and I feel like it brought us closer as a couple.

Last year for Christmas, I found these really cool books that were sold as a bundle.  It’s called “31 Prayers for your Husband” written by Jennifer Smith of The Unveiled Wife. Have you heard of it? One for me and one for my husband. I put my husband’s in his stocking and mine in my stocking and we made a commitment to pray for each other for 31 days. Well, we keep going every month, but you get the idea. So are you up to the challenge?

Isn’t your marriage worth fighting for?

17190354_1731015203578956_5058369223036550540_n

Here are some of the prayers you will find in the book.  There is also blank pages after each prayer where you can make it more personal.

Some of the prayers in these resources include:

Prayers for her:

  • Freedom From Fear
  • My Wife’s Health
  • Grace in Marriage
  • Life Giving Words
  • Cultivating Romance
  • Rejuvenate My Wife

Prayers for him:

  • Leader Of The Home
  • Pursuing Gentleness
  • Freedom From Lust
  • Knowing His Purpose
  • Integrity
  • Extraordinary Marriage

As women, we need our spouses to pray for us, just like our husbands need us to pray for them. It’s important. It’s vital. Without it, we have no hope.

So, I ask you to join me in the #31prayerchallenge and make a commitment to pray for your spouse for 31 days. I highly recommend the books and she has them on sale right now.  If your spouse won’t read it or pray, then start praying about that for them and see how God moves in their heart and your marriage. The enemy wants to destroy our marriages so even if only one of you are praying, that’s so important. I noticed a wonderful difference in my husband when I started praying for him and vice versa with me.

Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven.  Psalm 107:28-30

So, please join me and my husband as we commit to this challenge that The Unveiled Wife has going on in 2017. Let’s see how God moves in our marriages!

Letting Go

Happy Friday Ya’ll!

So, if you missed my post last week, I mentioned that I was excited about being part of the launch team for KariAnne Wood’s new book that’s coming out in September. I finished reading Chapter 2 this week and if Chapter 1 didn’t make me feel like God tapped KariAnne (Check out her blog – Thistlewood Farm) on the shoulder and said invite Wendy Walker to be part of this, well then, Chapter 2 was spot on!

Do you ever have a situation arise and you believe it’s going to happen and then all of sudden doubt comes in and fear arises? Yep, that’s me! I start focusing on all that I need to do that I have lost sight of focusing all of my efforts on God instead. When my kids were little, I would rush around and always feel like I had to do everything. Not home stuff. I mean church stuff, friends stuff, stranger stuff, etc. You with me? I wanted to have the big “S” on the front of my shirt! Instead, I became drained all the time and worn out.

I turned to God and asked “What do you want me to do”? Praying about what he wants and the direction he wanted me to go allowed me to let go of all the unnecessary stuff that someone else could be doing. There’s so many others moms in the group. Why do I have to be the one to make the cupcakes all the time? My cupcakes are pretty amazing, but

Fast forward now several years and can I tell you how good it feels to “Let it go”! I have more time in my life now to do the things that God wants me to do. Isn’t that what we should be focusing on anyways?

I hope ya’ll have a great weekend and I can’t wait for ya’ll to read the book in September. It’s pretty amazing!!!! #soclosetoamazing

So Close to Amazing

Soclosetoamazing

Do you ever have a day where everything goes right and you’re like “bam”, I’m the best mom ever? And, then there’s those days that absolutely nothing goes right.  Are you with me?

I am honored to be part of the Launch Team to my new friend KariAnne’s book – So Close to Amazing! KariAnne Wood is the beautiful inside and out lady behind Thistlewood Farms. If you don’t already follow her blog, go check it out.  You can thank me later. She’s absolutely amazing!

My job as part of the Launch Team is that I get to read the book before it hits the shelves in September. I can share with you some highlights and from the looks of Chapter 1, this is going to be an awesome book, especially for all of us moms! Oh, and I didn’t mention all the cute DIY tutorials at the end of each chapter. 🙂

Feel free to share this first post with all of your friends and join me on this journey. Your friends can sign up for my blog HERE. This way, they will receive all of my weekly updates I will be making weekly prior to the launch of the book in September. Chapter 1 is about taking a “Jump”. Have you ever been in a situation where you want something so bad but not sure if it’s the right thing to do? Do you ever hear God speaking to you and you just ignore him until he’s tugging on you and tugging on you? NO. Oh, ok….well I have! Instead of trusting HIM, I get scared. This book is encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone and JUMP! So, are you with me?

Embrace the you God created you to be.
And discover the amazing that was there all along ~ KariAnne Wood

Are you going to join me?

I want to invite you into the most powerful conversation about miracles – and mindset – that I think has ever taken place. My friend, JJ Virgin’s, movie premiere, You Are Stronger Than You Think opens today. (And I have a front row ticket for you).
The world’s leading minds debate that miracles are even possible.
…But this movie has created a powerful idea to consider:
not only are miracles possible, they come from you, not happen to you.

Here are the facts:

  • JJ’s 16-year-old son was in a near-tragic hit-and-run accident and left for dead.
  • He was given a VERY low chance of survival.
  • This story – and what happened next – are life-altering.

Click here to join me (and I want to hear your thoughts – please add your comments on the world premiere page after you watch the movie).

P.S.: I know you’re going to be moved by this experience! The next step is JJ’s memoir, Miracle Mindset. Watch for it – I couldn’t put it down.

* This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime stories. The movie is uplifting and life-altering, and I hope you’ll share this email – and the invitation – with the people you care about most.

Kinda Amish

I was blessed this summer with a trip to the Amish County in Ohio.  I’ve wanted to go for some time now so we had a “girls” weekend and took my Aunt for her 75th birthday.  My birthday was just a week before hers so my husband and kids decided to give me cash for my birthday and told me to have a good time.  Well, I kinda begged a little for the money.  Just a little.

Unfortunately, we were only able to stay one night, but let me tell you, I decided you need 3-4 nights as there is just too much to see.  We still had a wonderful time!

We stayed in a cute inn in Walnut Creek and I went antique pickin’ for some neat goodies at an adorable antique store ran by an Amish couple.  Oh, did I find some neat things.

We then went into Berlin, which is way too commercial.  I was on a mission to find a homemade quilt made by Amish ladies and kept having the hardest time finding anything.  They were all made in China as most of the stores were.  I was looking for “real” Amish items.

Well, I ended up finding an Amish quilt shop that were handmade locally.  I was mesmerized by all the quilts but then saddened as I couldn’t afford any of them LOL.  The king size quilts were over $1,200.00.  Rightfully worth it, I just wasn’t prepared to spend that much this trip.  I’ll bring my hubby next time and that might work.

My sister found an adorable fall print table runner that I just had to have and it was in my price point and then I found a “wedding ring” pattern table runner that I fell in love with too.  I went to go check out and pay for my items and looked up on the wall and this beautiful “hanging quilt” was in the same pattern as one of the runners.  I had to have it.  Fortunately, I could afford it.  I just decided we wouldn’t eat going back home HA!

I also snagged a “quillow”.  It’s a pillow that is also a throw.  I was so excited with my purchases and new my trip was almost complete.  I was then on my search for a “real” Amish basket.

Well, low and behold, I was in another shop and found this beautiful casserole holding basket with handles.  I was amazed when I flipped it over and it was made from a 5 year old.  That just made it even more special.

We were kinda in a hurry that day as we had dinner reservations at an Amish home and a buggy ride scheduled.  I was again mesmerized at the home, the barn, the farm and the garden when we arrived.  It’s everything I long to have here in Florida.  It was so simple but yet productive.

We met the most nicest couple.  Of course their last name was Yoder and the meal was out of this world!  They have a custom where the food gets passed twice and then they have dessert.  We were able to ask them questions and I will share more on that in another post.

After supper, their son took us on our buggy ride.  At first, it felt a little “rackety” and I jokingly (but way serious) told him I’d like to stay on two wheels LOL.

I just can’t explain it all here.  If you long for the simple life, you have to plan a trip to the Amish community.  I hear there is one here in Florida near Sarasota.  I plan to take a trip down there next spring so I’ll share that experience with you then.

Well, after all I saw and learned from the Amish, I’ve decided I want to be “Kinda Amish”.  I love the simplicity of their lives and their faith and love for the Lord.  I even love their mealtime prayer: Lord, we thank you for this meal.  For all blessings you impart.  For our family, for our friends.  And for living in our heart.  Amen.  How simple is that?

I even would be willing to give up my vehicle and drive a buggy to town.  I just would hate not being able to travel like I do.  It would take way too long by buggy.  The bonnets are cute but I’m not sure I want to do all my chores in a long dress.

My family and friends would probably think I was crazy so for now, I’m going to be “Kinda Amish”.  But then again, I shouldn’t be worried about what other think of me, right?

Until next time……

What are some ways you are Kinda Amish?  Could you go full Amish?  I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Why We Didn’t Have a BBQ Today

WHY WE DIDN'T

This year is a little different.  I’m not trying to be unsociable, but I’m looking at things differently now.

You see, my father passed away at the end of January and he was retired from the US Army.  He also served in two tours in Vietnam.  He died from an Agent Orange related illness caused in Vietnam.

I guess I never really understood when I was younger why we “really” celebrate Memorial Day.  The real definition is this…..

FullSizeRender1

Memorial Day, an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, at least, it marks the beginning of summer.

Memorial Day, originally honored only those lost while fighting in the Civil War. But during World War I the United States found itself embroiled in another major conflict, and the holiday evolved to commemorate American military personnel who died in all wars.

In 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which established Memorial Day as the last Monday in May in order to create a three-day weekend for federal employees; the change went into effect in 1971. The same law also declared Memorial Day a federal holiday.*

Gatherings and BBQ’s are nice, don’t get me wrong, but we decided to not do anything this year.  We went to the Florida National Cemetery where my father was buried.   I’m still in awe at how many graves are just at our state cemetery.  As I walked past row by row, I just thought to myself, how many families are hurting on a daily basis because of a loved one that didn’t come back from war or died later as a result of that war.

Each of these gravestone markers has a story and history.  They were all unique, brave and courageous and fought the good fight!

This Memorial Day, I salute you soldiers, both men and women, who died in any of the wars and who died later as a related illness from that war just like my dad did.  This is why we celebrate Memorial Day!

I miss him so much!  I am so glad he’s rejoicing with our Father in Heaven and no longer suffering.  He is healed.  This is my dad on the left and his brother on the right.  How cool would it be to be in Vietnam with your sibling?

I hope you enjoyed your holiday no matter how you celebrated it. J

A Little Faith

There is just something about biting into a fresh picked veggie, isn’t there?

FullSizeRender (2)

At first, when my friend Dara mentioned a new gardening method, I felt a little like “No way I can grow veggies without water”.  I watched the 2 hour video on the Back to Eden website and just absorbed all the info that I could.  Have you heard of it?  I decided to change my method to the BTE (Back to Eden) this Spring.  What better way to honor God than through the garden.  After all, that’s where it all started, right?

Just five days ago, this little cucumber was this size below.  Isn’t is amazing how we take a seed and it grows!

IMG_5769.JPG

I’m so excited about my new garden this year.  I do not have irrigation installed.  In fact, we don’t even have a well installed yet at our new property.  I only use water on the really hot days which fortunately, hasn’t been too many so far.  When I do water, I take my 2 gallon sprayer container and go back to our shop ( about five acres away) and fill it up.

FullSizeRender

So, here is the new method I am using.  I have to say, there are not pests at all.  I NEVER use pest control as my garden is all heirloom seeds from Baker Creek Seeds.

IMG_5295

The above photo is where it all starts.  I lay newspaper or cardboard down and then add a layer of manure on top of that.

IMG_5293

I then add about 8-10 inches of wood chips.  The wood chips help retain all the moisture hence the no need for much watering.

IMG_5294

Then, goes the rows filled with manure again.  Once the plants start growing, then I will spread the chips on top of the roots.

IMG_5789

I truly am so amazed at how gorgeous all of my veggies are growing.  I had the faith that God would provide and he has indeed!  Above is Basil that I planted all from seed.  I will split the basil up here in just a little bit so it doesn’t get so top heavy.  A future goal of mine is to grow herbs in pots and sell them and maybe a possible veggie stand in the future . 🙂

Alrighty, stay tuned as I’ll be posting the progress of everything else too.  Have a great week!

Blessings,
